Revelation Requires Concentration

Church Leaders teaching from Social Media (found in the Digital only Liahona)

“In my professional life, I worked as a cardiologist. When I used a stethoscope—a device to hear a patient’s heart sounds—I made sure the room was quiet; I turned off any radio or television that was on. I shut the door to the corridor and asked visitors or other patients to refrain from talking. I focused on what I was hearing and avoided thinking about any other concerns.

“Revelation requires similar concentration and elimination of distractions. To receive personal revelation, we need to walk away from worldly noise. We do not receive revelation when we are angry, agitated, or frustrated, or even simply preoccupied. Rather we create an environment that fosters feeling and recognizing the Spirit.

“Learning to seek and rely on the Spirit is a life skill, not just a temporary way to get through a crisis. As we seek the Holy Ghost, He will be a reliable, trustworthy, and beloved companion.”
